Volunteer
- Find a literacy program in your area online through ProLiteracy, Dollar General, or America's Literacy Directory
- Call the National Literacy Hotline at 1-800-228-8813 to find an adult literacy program in your area.
- Contact your local library, most of which have literacy programs that are always looking for volunteers.
Advocate
- Urge your elected officials to support literacy. (For tips on how to effectively advocate, including easy-to-use letter writing tips, click here).
- Stay on top of current issues, legislation, and key votes by signing up for ProLiteracy's "Action Network."
- Take immediate action on the most current literacy issue before Congress, the "Pathways Back to Work Fund" by sending a pre-made email in less than a minute!
Donate
- Once you've have searched above for a literacy program, see if they accept donations. (Many literacy programs are non-profit, and appreciate even a $10 gift!)
- A donation does not have to be monetary, however. Many programs accept used books and materials, even practical items, such as dry erasers or paper towels.
